I’m not happy with the actions certain members of the Police Federation and it seems that the grass roots of the organisation isn’t either. As I said a few days ago, the actions of a few misguided officers is damaging the reputation of the vast bulk of honest, professional officers and that is exactly the conclusion of a report commissioned by the Federation itself in the wake of the Plebgate scandal.
According to the Telegraph’s report, nine out of ten police officers believe the Police Federation must change in the wake of the scandal. The report goes on to warn that the organisation has “fallen well short” on standards of behaviour and ethics, and that it “risks losing public confidence”.
The police do an amazing and important job and I hope that the Federation takes heed of their own members and distances itself from the of those causing their members harm.
