Eric Joyce has written a very illuminating piece about the situation at Grangemouth, it is well worth a read.

Unite, it seems, were willing to put thousands of local jobs at risk to protect one of their shop stewards who was being investigated for using company time to stitch up Labour candidate selection for Falkirk.

None of the main players comes away from this situation particularly well.  There is no doubt that Ineos, the company that owns of Grangemouth, has been heavy handed in their industrial relations but Unite have shown a callus disregard for those who it is meant to represent and the wider local community, and once again Labour has shown itself to be weak.
