It’s right that we recognise marriage

I’ll lay my cards on the table, I’m a big fan of marriage and I’ve long felt that either we recognise marriage in the tax and legal system or we don’t.  We currently have a hybrid system which provides a mix of advantages and constraints to those who choose to have their relationship recognised by the law with a huge number of anomalies.

David Cameron’s proposals for a transferable tax allowance for married couples won’t change the world but it is a step in the right direction and I hope that we are able to keep moving down this road.
