Just as charity begins at home, protecting the environment should also start locally. As a former Chairman of the London Waste and Recycling Board I’m proud of the work that we have done in London to reduce the amount of rubbish that get buried in financially and ecologically unsustainable landfill sites in the Home Counties.
But protecting the local environment is about more than just ending landfill. The support and protection of local shops, protection of the Greenbelt, maintenance and promotion of good quality housing and the proper provision of local services are all important elements keeping communities buoyant.
