Design competition for London’s new police HQ

As part of the Mayor’s Office for Policing & Crime’s plan to cut the number of police buildings and increase the number of police officers, New Scotland Yard is being sold.

New Scotland Yard is often described as an iconic building. It isn’t!  It has an iconic name but the building itself is dire, it is a 1960s building with warren like corridors and pokey little offices which make communication and collaborative working.  I’ve been in it dozens of times and I can’t stand it.

But none of that matters any more because it’s going.  The police HQ is moving in next door to the Ministry of Defence and just around the corner from No 10 and parliament.  The building already exists, its called  the Curtis Green Building, but it will need a complete overhaul and submissions of interest are currently being sought from architects.  So if you think you could design a modern functional HQ for the best police force in the world, get in touch.
