Simplicity in energy pricing, a good Tory principle

David Cameron got some stick when he announced his plan to simplify energy pricing but he has driven the idea through and it looks like legislation won’t be far off.

As a Conservative and believer in competition and free markets, I applaud this move.  Prices fall and service improves when there is real competition in service provision, the complicated and impenetrable pricing plans that energy providers currently have make it almost impossible for consumers to compare and choose. Simplification and transparency will make it easier for people to identify what they value the most and choose accordingly.

If the yardstick for all business related legislation was “does it bring clarity and increased competition?” I think we would be in a much better place both economically and socially.
