Is it group hysteria or a Tom Baldwin scheme?

First we had Stella Creasy talking rubbish about the Big Society being like the Ku Klux Klan, now we have another London Labour MP claiming that the Government is trying to drive Muslim women out of Central London.

Karen Buck, MP for Westminster North, said at a public meeting “They (the Government) do not want lower-income women, families, children and, above all, let us be very clear – because we also know where the impact is hitting – they don’t want black women, they don’t want ethnic minority women and they don’t want Muslim women living in central London.”

So, Creasy claimed that bringing charitable and community organisations into public service delivery was basically the same a burning crosses and now Buck implies that hard working families in Crayford no longer paying the rent of families in Chelsea is the somehow the same as the Lašva Valley. I’m not sure whether I’m meant to laugh or be disgusted.

Initially I wrote this off as stupid hyperbole, but then I reconsidered.  Both comments seemed designed to link the government’s policies with racist extremists, not attacking the policies but smearing the party. It has the whiff of a Damian McBride style smear campaign and Labour should have learned that there is little appetite for that kind of politics.  Even after McBride left a culture of nasty anonomous briefings continued in the Labour party, which I hoped would end with the appointment of Tom Baldwin, Miliband’s new head of media.

I genuinely hope that I’m reading too much into this.

  1. What an interesting piece.

The Labour Party need to realise that they are HM opposition and they are not living up to the task – they appear to disagree with every policy for the sake of it and seem unable to stop being nasty.

I take great exception to Ms Bucks comments on various grounds namely they are wrong, juvenile, ill placed and trouble making but most of all because they somehow point the finger of racism towards the Tories and people like me who are proud to be Conservative would never endorse such an evil.

If this is the best new old new Labour can do they are in serious trouble.

  2. Politicians who constantly throw mud at each other, without making a positive contribution to society, whilst taking our money are a waste of resource, eh James?
