Don’t fear the BNP, just point and laugh

Ahead of the European Elections I have been asked to sign petitions, pass on links, watch videos and generally plead for people not to vote for the BNP. I’m happy to do these things but I must confess to being less fearful about the BNP gaining a few seats than others seem to be.

You see, I know a thing or two about the BNP in office, I sit next to a member of the BNP at the London Assembly. What is it like having to sit next to someone who represents a party with such unappetising views? It can be summed up in one word: comic!

If you want to see just how ineffective a BNP protest vote really is just look at this video clip (fast forward to 1 hour, 9 minutes and 50 seconds) of Richard Barnbrook AM at work at the last Mayor’s Questions.

  1. A strange feeling is building up inside me. I have a suspicion it could be a measure of respect for Boris Johnson.

    How did that happen?

  3. I wish I could point and laugh, but I fear that in parts of Britain they are considered a real party. Their views are so obnoxious I don’t think laughing at them is enough.

  5. I can laugh at the BNP – what I can’t laugh at is the growing number of people who seem to consider it acceptable to support them.

  7. This democracy lark is a pain isn’t it Mr Cleverly. You keep laughing at the BNP but remember you are insulting the estimated one million plus British people who will be voting for them this June. Mr Barnbrook clearly suffers from dyslexia however, if you were to listen carefully to what he is saying instead of laughing at his disability, you would realise that he raises some valid and well thought out arguments.

I’m not laughing at the people who vote for the BNP, they’re misguided, I’m laughing at the BNP.

Why do you say he “clearly” dyslexic?

I did not say you were laughing at the people who vote for the BNP I said you were insulting the people who vote for the BNP which you obviously are as you now state that they are “misguided”. “Clearly” you do not believe in democracy. I read somewhere that Mr Barnbrook was dyslexic, from hearing him speak I assume he has some form of speech disorder or at the very least is not a great public speaker, this should not preclude him from his duties as a politician or as an elected member of the London Assembly. Once again I say if you were to listen carefully to what he is saying you would hear that he raises some valid and well thought out arguments.

  13. Anon,

Do not confuse dyslexia with crass stupidity, they are two entirely different things.

If you were around seventy years ago, I’m sure you would feel that Mr Hitler “raises some valid and well thought out arguments”.

The BNP are a joke, hence the reason no right minded person has ever voted for them. They are an irrelevance.

  15. Excalibur – they should be an irrelevance but as I say in parts of Britain they are becoming more than that and that is why I cannot just laugh at them.

We need to ensure that decent people do not find themselves represented by these thugs. It is not just a matter of sitting next to them, but being represented by them.

Every decent person has a duty to vote in June for one of the four main parties in London to avoid the BNP being their voice.

  21. Frustration with the immigration situation allowed under labour is something many of us feel. A situation where folks can play the system and claim benefits without then contributing. But frustration with a system is not racism. The answer is not repatriation, the answer is contribution.
Credit to Boris – a great pragmatic answer to which most of the country would subscribe, contribute and work towards the goals of our great country and you are most welcome.
Sit on your backside and play the system and you are not welcome. Its not an issue of colour, creed or race, its one of attitude. If you want to work and graft and make your contribution there is a place for you in britain. If you want to play the system and live life on benefits then its a differnt situation… plenty of people of every race in both categories.
    Well done Boris.

  23. Laughing won’t do it, I’m afraid. If the major parties want the BNP to go away, then they will have to start addressing issues such as: the steady obliteration of British identity; uncontrolled legal and illegal mass immigration; rampant mosque building and the creeping influence of sharia law; ethnic ghettoes fomenting hatred, violence and terrorism; environmental destruction caused by overpopulation; and so on. Currently, the BNP seems to be the only party taking these issues seriously.

As for buffoonery, well Boris “Bunter” Johnson wins my vote, with ease.

  25. It’s not all bad news for Barnbrook. He’s managed to win a prestigious political award from a most respected journal
