Free travel for veterans

I forgot to write about this at the time, slap wrist to me!

War veterans can now travel for free on London’s public transport system. During the campaign Boris promised he would introduce this scheme, now he has made good on that promise and did so in time for the remembrance services at the weekend.

All war veterans in receipt of a pension under the War Pensions Scheme or the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme are eligible for passes and over 1,500 passes have already been issued.

As you may know I have long felt that service personnel have been undervalued and their efforts gone largely unrecognised. This is a step in the right direction and an indicator of London’s gratitude to the people who knowingly risk their lives to protect us.

  1. It's sad we put all these restrictions on helping servin & ex-serving forces. In America a veteran is anyone who has served. You don;t have to be retired you don't have to have got injured. Just having served is enough! There are over 20 veterans hospitals in the US. They can be used by any ex-military person or their immediate family. Our military is about 1/6 the size of the US, so we should have 3-4 such hospitals. How many do we have? None! How many dedicated Military hospitals? None. What a shit country. Certainly not worth fighting & dieing for!

  3. Every NHS hospital in this country can be used by veterans and their families. The same cannot be said for America’s system of health care. Give me our shit country’s health care any day. However, if you are so concerned about fighting for this country, you may wish to consider that you are really fighting for America and their oil industry.

  5. Hmm, and every other johnny come lately can use them. Including muslims who object to our brave boys being there, and in a fairly recent case, abused said F&ckung hero!I've been to public hospitals, mostly filled with people who's families were not paying into the national coffers when said buildings were being built, but use them anyway. Nice

You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the < HREF="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=461031&in_page_id=1770" REL="nofollow">Daily Mail<> and that they < HREF="http://ahmedismailibrahim.wordpress.com/2007/07/18/muslim-women-abuse-soldier-at-troops-hospital/" REL="nofollow">subsequently removed<> from their website. So although there is not a dedicated hospital, there is a separate centre within a well equipped NHS hospital, specifically providing for the needs of injured service personnel.

  9. Sorry, I lied, ther are over 50 miltary hospitals in the US and they are 6 times the size of us so there should be at least 8 in this country. Lets take war fighting seriously, or the consequences will be that solders will suffer.
