Old news

I wonder why the “Boris is s racist” stories are bubbling up again? You may remember that these allegations first did the rounds in the summer when Livingstone was clearly hoping to scare the Conservatives out of nominating Boris.

Suddenly the same story is floating around again, firstly in the New Nation and then in the Mirror and the London Paper. Is this sudden Resurrection anything to do with diverting attention away from the string of financial mismanagement stories running in the Evening Standard?

Answers on a postcard.

  1. James,I’ve been a bit surprised that after the allegations in the Standard, which do look pretty well researched, there has been no suggestion of a police investigation on the one hand or writs for libel on the other. If Livingstone and his people don’t sue the Evening Standard can we perhaps assume they don’t think they would win a case against it?

  3. Maybe it is because for months now Boris has been incommunicado while he considers all the issues for London (other than bendy buses). Now that he is speaking again people are still concerned with the same issues including whether we want a mayor of London who is going to have to start every second speech with an apology for insulting another group of people.

  5. Jimmy,Sometimes a bit short of tact maybe, racist definitely not. Don’t forget that he was taking the p*** out of Tony Blair’s rather arrogant paternalism when he made the remarks that Ken’s chums are so keen to twist. Talking of twisting, what do you really want done about the exceedingly embarrassing financial situation the Standard has uncovered? Even if nothing criminal can be proved, which remains to be seen, it doesn’t look good for our city. We want people to trust us enough to continue investing here and we don’t want to have to fend off insults about London’s finances every time we chat to people when we are away from London.Wish Boris would brush his hair and keep it a bit shorter though, but I’m sure James, as an Army man, has tried to tell him that (tactfully) already!
