Selling out?

There are thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airforce personnel who are in difficult and dangerous situations who will not be offered thousands of pounds for their stories.

They are just getting on with a job, a dangerous job but an unglamorous job. It is to their financial disadvantage that they have not been captured by foreign government. The sailors and marines who have recently been released are professional military people and should be encouraged to act as such.

  1. It’s taxpayers money funding this war, and if anyone should profit from any paper deals it should be the taxpayer, not the people who elect to join the forces, are trained to deal with hostage situations, and paid (albeit it questionably badly) for entering war zones. I don’t think they can legitimately stay in the forces and sell their stories. It’s like penalising those soldiers/marines who’ve not ‘been lucky enough’ to have been kidnapped. Just my view…RS

  3. This set a ludicrous precent, I’m glad John Reid has banned it from happening again, though he should have acted earlier in this case.

  5. Mmmm. Normally I’d agree but I imagine Tony Blair will write his memoirs once he steps down and make a rather large chunk of cash and he helped start the mess – so good luck to them.
