British Army in Afghanistan

I wrote here some time ago that I felt that the British Army was being asked to do a lot in Afghanistan with far too few resources.

It seems that I am not the only one who feels this way. British commanders on the ground are asking for more troops.

What is most worrying is that news of the attacks on British troops, in both Iraq and Afghanistan, are being suppressed. Do you remember all the news reports about the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment battle in Al Amarah, where Private Baharry won his VC?

If the answer is no it is because there was very little reported of the 30 day battle. My worry is that the same may happen in Afghanistan and the British people will not know that there is a crisis in the Armed Forces as well as the NHS.

  1. I’ve just checked with a US Marine buddy of mine who was has recently left the “Stan”, and he has clearly stated that the ROE that the british are using is not that wichy they were using, an more worryingly, the stated “Mission” we have is not that that they had. It’s not much of a hand-over really is it?My worry is that this country (UK) is getting sucked into the liberal malaise that has afflicted other great military nations with REAL fighting spirit like Canda, New Zealand etc (want proof, read about Galipoli, and Dieppe, or just look for thier names on the VC register). Now, because of their weak leaders cowtowing to the lowest common demoninator, they are military jokes who will never be able to project a national will outside their own borders (and probably not within!)Please do’nt pretend that soldiers are “peace keepers” because it upsets people, it’s insulting to us. We are fighters who can, if needed, keep the peace!
